Recently, we launched our 10^th title, On the Wings of Thought. This 135-page collection is a compilation of the author, Dato’ Vijay Eswaran’s quotes. Just as in his previous works In the Sphere of Silence, In the Thinking Zone and 18 Stepping Stones his writing in this book continues to be calm and reflective, connecting with the reader’s spirit and taking him or her on a journey of self-discovery.

Flipping through On the Wings of Thought, is equal to going through a whole tumult of emotions. Each page with its scenic images is calming to the senses but the quotes accompanying them make one ponder on the many unanswered questions of life, it reminds one of what William Hazlitt, an English writer, said “Books let us into their souls and lay open to us the secrets of our own.”

The quotes and messages of the book is from the author’s Thought of the Day (ToD) programme where he sends out the TODs to a few friends, employees and relatives via SMS, encouraging each individual to reflect them on their daily life. These people who receive the TOD’s, forward it to others, who in turn send it to many more. Hence, a single thought can travel around the world by the end of the day.

Due to its overwhelming popularity and influence, RYTHM House Publishing decided to publish a book on these thoughts. We paired these thoughts with breath-taking photographs taken by the author on his numerous travels around the world to emphasise on the meaning of each quote. To capture some of these precious shots, the author sometimes precariously leaned dangerously over the edge of a bridge to capture the water gushing out with speed, symbolising power.

The book also comprises of unique pictures taken through the discerning eye of the author where he captures a perspective that is often missed by others putting the adage a true artist can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary into practice.

A perfect example being – “You must know your limits well. You must push till you hit them. Only then can you go beyond them. If you never walk the edge, you will never fly.” This profound quote is set against a scenic picture of mountain peaks in New Zealand, where the author landed from a helicopter and took a daring walk in three feet of snow to capture this priceless scenery of perfect untouched mountain peak. The message here is simply: a person’s dream and the achievement are equal to climbing and reaching the zenith of a mountain. Each quote makes one think and question the meaning of life and its intricacies.

As the author aptly puts “Every breath you take is a reminder that every minute you live is a gift. Every hour a lesson and every day your legacy.”

Young Writer’s Programme

As the famous poet said, writing is like breath from your heart. If you have passion for writing but don’t know where to start, let RYTHM House Publishing be your mentor.

The Young Writer’s Programme was created to provide budding young writers with an avenue to publish their work. As the programme is catered for young people, we are providing the selected young writer with an internship based on their requirements. The internship would guide the participants with an opportunity to hone their skills in writing and eventually be ready to produce a manuscript. At this point, depending on the content and marketability of the manuscript, we will decide whether to publish the book or not.

Each internship programme is geared according to the needs of the participant. The selection for the internship is done based on the submission of the initial sample writing or manuscript provided. It is open to youth from the age of 11 to 25 years of age.

This programme will provide an abundance of opportunities and skills that will benefit these young writers for a lifetime.

The very first protégée produced through this noble effort is K Aveena Devi, author of the newly released title What’s Your Problem? Also in the pipeline is another young aspiring author, Joanna Ambrose who is writing a book titled, Adam’s Bubble Gum and Vasudev Bismark with his fantasy series, River's Journey.

The Birth of a New Author: K Aveena Devi

On March 30, 2011, invited guests and employees of the QI Group came together to show their support for RYTHM House Publishing and new author K. Aveena Devi, who unveiled her very first book, titled ‘What’s Your Problem?’in a special book launch event held at Block C, PJ8 in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Aveena Devi is an optimistic and courageous young girl who was diagnosed at birth with a defect called spina bifida, which confined her to a wheelchair at a very young age. ‘What’s Your Problem?’ is an inspiring story and testimony of how she defied doctors’ predictions and fought to overcome her physical disability.

In her opening speech, Datin Umayal Eswaran, Publisher of RYTHM House (RH) announced that the book is the first to be published under the publishing house’s Young Writer’s Programme, which is aimed at reviving the young generation’s interest in reading and writing, and also encouraging young talents to hone their writing skills and unleash their true potential.

“Aveena wrote a very moving story which appeared in a magazine and newspaper, and that inspired us to start working with her on this book. We hope you will enjoy this remarkable story and allow it to change your perspective on the disabled and their ability to make a difference in this world,” Datin Umayal said, before inviting Dato’ Vijay Eswaran, Executive Chairman of the QI Group on stage to officially launch the book.

Dato’ Vijay, who is an established author with international best sellers to his name, commended Aveena on her amazing accomplishment. “Many of us are still on wheelchairs in our minds. But Aveena here has already started flying!” said Dato’ Vijay, who went onto speak about some of the most brilliant minds in the history of mankind, including Stephen Hawking, who suffered from some form of physical disability.

“I challenge any one of you, after reading this book, to consider Aveena to be disabled. If anything, she is more empowered and enabled,” he continued.

Later, Aveena presented the very first copy of her book to Dato’ Vijay and gave away complimentary copies to all the sponsors of the event.Very touched by the encouragement from her family, friends and staff of QI, Aveena said in her speech, “I hope my book entertains you, makes you laugh, and most importantly, makes you think. No matter how old you are, you can achieve your dreams if you believe in yourself.” Then with a cheeky grin, she asked the crowd, “If I can do it, What’s Your Problem?”

After the launch, all guests were invited to partake in a delicious spread of vegetarian food and a special book signing session with Aveena. Copies of ‘What’s Your Problem?’ were also available for sale at the event. For every purchase of the book,RM1 will be donated to Persatuan Spina Bifida Malaysia.

RYTHM House Publishing is proud to present, K Aveena Devi's maiden book, What's Your Problem?

K Aveena Devi is the first young writer that RYTHM House Publishing has taken under its wings to develop into an author.

What’s Your Problem? tells the story from the point of view of a 16-year-old girl, who is suffering from spina bifida. Spina bifida is a birth defect and in Aveena Devi’s case, has made her unable to walk all her life.

Leading a normal life such as going to school, hanging out with friends, and simply getting up to do whatever she wants has always been Aveena’s dream. However, she was unable to do those things due to her condition and circumstances. Being left by her classmates and teacher during a fire drill exercise forced her parents to take her out of school, which resulted in Aveena not having a proper formal education from a young age.

Fortunately, they found another school which was more considerate towards her condition, but it did not last long. Due to her condition, she had to stop attending the school when it moved to a premise that did not offer the required facilities.

This is a story of her challenges as she grew up in her wheelchair, her relationships with her family members and how she tried to break away from the stereotype of the disabled and lead an independent life.

The official launch of the book will be held on 30th March 2011.

The Gem Collection – A Compilation of Wisdom felt like a homecoming book for me. Reading the first part of the book left me feeling warm.

The value emphasized upon in each wisdom-based story is reminiscent of the conversations that I have with my father as well as my childhood days of reading the religious and folk’s stories by Amar Chitra Katha and Chandhamama.

The value that really touched my heart was gratitude. My father always emphasises on this value to my siblings and me. He will remind us never to forget certain people in our lives as they have done certain acts though not magnanimous if viewed objectively but when taken into context of our family, they are considered as magnanimous as they had held out their hands during our bereavement and difficult times.

It is good to know that the goodness in my father is also found in other men in this world and it helps my dwindling trust in humanity to rise once again.

I would like to say that the wisdom highlighted by Mr. Bismark reminded me to keep on being and doing good, to be true to myself and above all there is always a purpose to being true to myself even during bad times and when there seems to be no use to being good.

RYTHM House Publishing is pleased to offer this fountain of acumen to Mr Bismark’s home country, the Philippines.

On 11 December 2010, Mr Bismark’s maiden book was officially launched in Bestsellers Book Stores, Robinsons Galleria in Manila, Philippines. It was truly a glitzy launch fit for the co-founder and Group Managing Director of the QI Group of Companies.

Officially launching the book in the presence of more than 100 enthusiastic customers and well-wishers, Ms Donna Imson, Executive Chairperson of QNet Ltd (a subsidiary under the QI Group), said, “This book gives us a wonderful peek into the thoughts of the man that is Joseph Bismark, who has always strived to remind us that success is not just built on material achievements, but also on spiritual growth, inner satisfaction and peace, which can only be acquired through meaningful service to others. The stories here are simple, drawn from daily life, yet immensely impactful as they lead the reader towards a greater awareness.”

The book, which the author maintains as “not really a book but just a compilation of my musing and reflections, brought about by my experiences and insights on random, everyday matters,” has been described by many readers as a refreshing reminder in today’s fast-paced world. The compilation began as a series of thought-provoking emails and intranet articles by Mr Bismark to his fellow colleagues around the world. First Book Club Meeting by RYTHM House Publishing

RYTHM House Publishing would like to thank all our book club members who made our first gathering a blast!

We had a great time discussing Divorced and Deadly by Josephine Cox. It was a funny and light-hearted story, poking fun at the various characters.

Here is the synopsis of the book:

Newly divorced and straining at the leash, Ben can't wait to get back into the game. His bunny-boiler ex doesn't want him, but she doesn't want anyone else to have him either so she's bought herself a powerful pair of binoculars and it's game on!

Ben moves back in with his overbearing and psychopathic mother who lost her 'baby boy' to marriage once and will do anything to stop him leaving again.

Eager to escape, he calls on his trusty side-kick Dickie Manse 'brains-in-his-pants' and together they find themselves renting a flat above a chip shop where their daft antics drive the Italian owner up the wall.

But single life isn't all it's cracked up to be. Ben falls for the dubious charms of Nancy despite everyone warning him off. He staggers from one disaster to another, unaware that Poppy, the girl from the dog kennels where he works, is head-over-heels in love with him!

We hope our next book club meeting will be even better! See you again soon!

RYTHM House Publishing Unveils Two Surprises During V-Con 2010

Electricity filled the air as over 8,000 independent entrepreneurs from various countries thronged the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Once again, The-V had managed to organise a successful and electrifying event and RYTHM House Publishing is honoured to have been part of this magnificent party.

As thousands of Independent Representatives (IR) from QNet participated in the event, RYTHM House had a few surprises in store for them to set their passion for the business on fire. We took this opportunity to launch two books for the IRs to carry home the wisdom and passion imparted by the founding partners of The V.

The Gem Collection – A Compilation of Wisdom by Joseph T. Bismark

Joseph T. Bismark is no stranger to us as he is the Group Managing Director from QNet. As a way to connect with his staff from all over the world, Mr. Bismark started a blog two years ago titled, Gems of Wisdom to convey his wisdom and thoughts. Due to the immense response for those who were lucky enough to receive the weekly ‘gems’ through the Internet, Mr. Bismark decided to compile the best of the ‘gems’ from the blog. This became the basis for The Gem Collection, the book authored by Mr. Bismark.

To honour the depth and wisdom of The Gem Collection, RYTHM House decided to give it a grand launch. Datin Umayal Eswaran, the Publisher of RYTHM House Publishing paid a glowing tribute to the author in her welcome address. Dato’ Vijay Eswaran, Mr Bismark’s partner and the executive chairman of the QI Group, took to the stage to say a few succinct but meaningful words about him.

Mr. Bismark’s 16-year-old daughter, Jadava Bismark, stood proudly by as her father’s first literary endeavor was launched by much fanfare. Mr. Bismark stepped forth to make a speech and present the first copy of his book to Dato’ Vijay as a sign of appreciation.

A book signing session was organised for The Gem Collection and inspired guests to purchase books to get their copies personally inscribed by the author.

18 Stepping Stones by Dato’ Vijay Eswaran

Having tasted the sweet success of being an author with his highly acclaimed book, In the Sphere of Silence, QI Group executive chairman Dato’ Vijay Eswaran is back to delight fans with another profound tome.

18 Stepping Stones was launched to an appreciative audience during the recent V Malaysia 2010. The book delves into the concept of 18 simple steps beginning with the letter ‘A’ to help the reader identify his or her sense of purpose and direction in life.

The idea behind the book is to encourage reflection and evoke a sense of awakening, directing the reader towards the path to growth. Mr Bismark’s Maiden Book

The book launch started off with a welcome address by publisher, Datin Umayal Eswaran.

“RYTHM House is honoured that [Mr Bismark] entrusted the project of publishing his maiden book to us, and I am happy to note that he has expressed himself pleased with the effort,” said Datin Umayal, referring to the author as her friend, business associate and brother.

In his speech towards the end of the launch, Dato’ Vijay Eswaran, the Executive Chairman of the QI Group, expressed his pride in Mr Bismark’s latest achievement.

The evening continued with a performance by Malaysian theatre personality Edwin Sumun, who he read excerpts from the The Gem Collection while the audience listened with rapt attention.

The launch ended with a book signing ceremony by the author. Many of the guests who attended the cocktail, which was held in conjunction with V Malaysia 2010, happily queued up to get their books personally autographed by Mr. Bismark.
